At The Pier Head Prep, we teach Montessori Method of teaching developed by Italian physician and educator Dr Maria Montessori in 1907.

 

Following her process of observing young children that were given the freedom of choice in a classroom environment, leading to her beliefs, by 1907, that due to a child’s normal nature, i.e. self-development a teachers role should be that of observation sometimes including experimental interactions, commonly known as ‘lessons’, which include resolving misbehavior or to help with the various self-teaching materials that are provided in the environment freely given to the child.

This method is mainly applied to children aged 2.5-6yrs as this was the age in which Dr Montessori worked with leading to her philosophy being based upon.

The method was and is, utilized successfully with ages from 2yrs upwards to 18yrs although the majority of children learning are 3-6yrs.

We are traditional in our way of teaching and we believe that children should learn in their own way as they grow.

​

The Montessori name is recognized, but it is not trademarked to one organization in particular so some schools may differ with their own interpretation and practical application method of teaching.
